ON GRAZING RESERVES KADUNA STATE

Some months ago, FGN via its Minister  of Agriculture Mr. Audu Obge indicated its intention of creating grazing reserves across the country. FGN assumed that will ameliorate incessant skirmishes between cattle breeders and peasant farmers and improve beef and milk productions.

On hearing the resolve of FGN, all Southern Nigeria States and middle-belt communities vehemently kicked against the move. Many cited physical and otherwise risks associated with grazing. And issues involving farmlands under cultivation that might likely be forcefully confiscated for the purpose.

While resistance against this was mounting and popular opinion tilting towards its complete rejection, Governor Nasir Ahmed El-rufa'i  joined the fray by volunteering to give FGN lands for the purpose. On hearing his commitment, the umbrella body of Southern Kaduna People SOKAPU and other numerous groups issued strong statements rejecting Governor El-rufa'i's decision.

Because he rules like an autocrat he has gone ahead to procure grasses for cattle breeders from Brazil and Argentina and shared them free to Fulanis in a grazing reserve created by IBB junta called Ladluga in Kachia/Kajuru/Zango-Kataf/Kauru LGAs. More to this, the Animal Doctor( DVM) turned politician and a native of Southern Kaduna announced that over one hundred million Naira  had  been released to his ministry to begin the process of creating reserves. Three of these reserves will be created in Southern Kaduna( Kachia, Kagarko, and Sanga LGAs).

Why is Mr. El-rufa'i always in the forefront of controversial matters since coming to public light? Why is he moving faster than FGN and any other state in Northern Nigeria on a matter full of physical risks?  Why is it that majority of the earmarked reserves  are in Southern Kaduna? Why creating reserves instead of ranches that are now a global practice? He imported grasses from Brazil and Argentina, are they grazing or ranching cattle there?  Last week Mr. Obge even said they are not thinking of grazing again, why is El-rufa'i still holding on to that anarchronistic system of cattle breeding?

We want Dr. Daniel Manzo Maigari ( The Commissioner Of Agriculture) and other Southern Kaduna people in Mr. El-rufa'i's loop to know that, history will never be kind to them for supporting and implementing this project. This generation and those yet unborn will live to remember their roles in a scheme hatched to tactically steal their ancestral lands and give it to immigrants from Futajalo and their allies here in Nigeria.

Members of Kaduna State House of Assembly(KDSHA) from Southern Kaduna and their peers in the National Assembly must wake up from their slumber. Their are not seeing nor hearing this grazing scheme will boomerang because people will sooner than later begin to ask them their roles in it. Their muteness is a clear signal that they are quite supportive of the grazing scheme by FGN and KDSG under a bellicostic and belittling El-rufa'i.
