It was the second day of Synod 2016 and all delegates awoke to a bright new after a power-packed and spirit-filled opening service the previous day. The delegates were well rested and started the day with their personal morning devotion before gathering at the church auditorium for the general morning devotion.

The Synod guest preacher, The Rt. Rev. Dapo Asaju, gave the exhortation on the topic “The Benefits of Righteousness” as further exposition on the Synod theme and took his text from Mark 16:20. In his exhortation, he declared that righteousness is not just who we are but what we are being light to the world adding that the appearance of a righteous person drives the demons away. He emphasized that righteousness should be the ministry and appearance of every Christian and that being in Christian ministry is an easy endeavor because all we are expected to do was to speak the word and God will confirm His word with signs and wonders.

He declared that only the righteous people can deliver the society from its present state of decadence and transgression adding that obedience to God will determine the altitude to which any people and nation can attain in life. He quoted more scriptures from the Book of Judges 3:7-10, 6:1-2 and 6:7-10.

Bishop Asaju further gave examples of men of Bible times who for their righteousness their nation was delivered. He mentioned Moses who was a man of righteousness and miracles; Joseph who by his righteousness helped to solve a famine problem; and Daniel who was a man of prayer and whose prayer saved his nation. He also listed people, which included Achan, Sons of Eli and David, who brought reproach to their nation as a result of the disobedience to God.

The morning devotion continued with hymn singing and prayers after which the delegates proceeded to Bible Study and then had their breakfast before preparing for the opening ceremony of the Synod.
