Herdsmen killed 4 and burned 15 houses in Niger
Suspected militia herdsmen have killed four persons and burnt 15 houses in Beji community of Bosso Local Government Area of Niger State
Residents claimed that the armed men numbering over 300 invaded the community on Saturday evening and killed their victims.
According to eyewitnesses, the marauders burnt 15 houses, four cars and 17 motorcycles as well as destroyed the barns meant for farm produce.
Our Reporter learnt the injured were mostly women and children who have been admitted at the Minna General Hospital
The armed men were said to be brandishing AK 47 rifles, matchets and cutlasses as they marched on the tow.
Sources said that the invasion of Beji could be a reprisal for the attack on Fulani by the Gwari in Lambata village near Paiko last Thursday.
After the attack, the herdsmen reportedly ran into a nearby forest to escape arrest by policemen who were deployed in the area.
The police team was led by an Assistant Commissioner of Police, whose identity was not disclosed for security reasons.
The state command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elikana, confirmed the incident to journalists.
He said: “Our men have flooded the place to bring the situation to normal,” adding that regular policemen were being reinforced with mobile policemen.
Elikana said that “no arrest has been made but our men are on the trail of the perpetrators of this crime.”
He disclosed that two suspects have been arrested in connection with another incident in Lambata in Gawu Babangida Local Government Area of the state.
