THE KNOWHOW OF OPPOSITION POLITICS
By
The cardinal schedule of mandate holders is to defend policies of government and make mandate givers believe they are faithful servants. On the other hand, the chief task of opposition cream is running critical analyses of government policies and actions, finding/creating fault lines ,and telling mandate givers that they are getting far below what they are getting.
There is no doubting the fact that the activities of the two blocks are (alway) heavily exaggerative. The level of consciousness in a body polity tells how effective or otherwise their campaigns goes. Aside this reason, other expected and unexpectedly variables play a their role(s). What the two camps aspire to achieve at the end is: to hold on to power- in the case of people in power; or sack those holding power- in the case of opposition party.
Today, in Nigeria, one side is discharging its role well while the other is disappointing itself and other Nigerians. APC is playing the role of ruling party excellently and without qualms. But the main opposition party( PDP) are failing woefully in their traditional duties.
PDP leaders(commanders of opposition brigade) are wobbling effort like some confused war commanders who went to the front without their maps and other arsenals.Judging from their actions and inactions,it's clear that they need seminars and some crash programmes to walk them through some basics of opposition politics. Watching their activities is akin to watching village amateur footballers in a dusty field.
Mainstreamist and opposition act of politicking are two different kettles of fish. This isn't an operational standard in Nigeria alone. It's a reality holding in all democratic settings of developed and less developed worlds. PDP are making the whole body polity boring and unattractive. However, the greatest danger is beyond superficialities enumerated hereinbefore, the danger is; the absence of checks and balances in the system.
I hereby offer a free tutorial for PDP kingpins and footsoldiers on the nitty gritty of opposition politics. This is my personal contribution to watering the tree of democracy and good governance in Nigeria.
